A hike at the Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge to visit a few earthly friends with a borrowed 800mm Lens.
Yeah some of you my say Wow, 800mm! Well if you have never had one mounted on a tripod and taken it on a hike let me tell you, your in for a workout. Is it worth it? Well of course! It is so wonderful to be at a distance where the wildlife does not shy away and carries on with business as usual. It did take a little time to get used to shooting with the lens. At first I found myself reaching for the non-existant zoom ring? Oops, there isn’t one, have to use basic foot powered zoom feature. It was different and a fun learning experience.
“A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”
― Albert Einstein

800mm ?? Wow ! I can’t even imagine how much that lens weighed along with the tripod and I’m sure a gimbal head. But so worth the effort right?
